Donor Human Milk

LEBBS are proud to support UKAMB and the North West Human Milk Bank by delivering Donor Milk to premature and sick babies in the Lincolnshire area.

Donor human milk is recommended by the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) for premature or vulnerable babies in circumstances where their mother’s own milk is not available.

Benefits of Donor Milk include:

1. Protection from infection
2. Protection from necrotising enterocolitis
3. Easier to digest.

Transportation is a two stage process:

New mums in Lincolnshire contact the Northwest Human Milk Bank in Chester to arrange donation of their milk. The Milk Bank will then call LEBBS and arrange collection. LEBBS will then relay the milk over to Chester (usually with another Blood Bike Group) ready for it to be processed, pasteurised and frozen. It is then distributed over to the Milk Bank Depots; which for this area is the Women and Childrens Hospital in Hull.

When a hospital within Lincolnshire needs some milk, they call LEBBS, who will then collect this precious cargo from Hull and deliver it to the Neo-natal unit in need.
